As someone who usually loves Devney Perry’s book this one was a let down for me. Really couldn’t stand Nick as a character, there were too many different plots going on at once, yet also so much filler. I just really struggled to care about the characters, the dialogue between characters also felt very off. Hesitant to continue the series after this one.

Being with Nick made me feel free. His confidence and easy grace were contagious. I could just be myself. Do whatever I wanted. Say whatever I wanted. This Emmeline was relaxed. Happy.

“You asked me back then if I believed in fate. I didn’t until I met you. And I’ve spent nine years thinking I’d never see your face again. But fate brought you back into my life and I’m not going to mess it up again.”

Without hesitation, he had defended me to the one person who had always made me feel like I was less.

“I’d do just about anything to see that look on your face every day.”

🍀 First person dual POV
🍀 Second in a series that can be read as stand alone; links to Clifton Forge & Larke Cove series
🍀 Insta-love
🍀 Vegas wedding
🍀 Protective MC; ‘Touch her & I’ll kill you’ vibes
🍀 Small town vibes
🍀 Teacher / Firefighter
🍀 Heiress / Blue collar
🍀 Meddling toxic family
🍀 Emmy is looking for a fresh start as a kindergarten teacher in small town Montana, 9 years after marrying — and being abandoned by — the man she fell in love with at first sight. Fate is hard to ignore when the husband she has searched for appears in her new town, adamant he won’t walk away this time. Nick left to keep her safe, but as tensions rise with his family’s enemies and Emmy’s house is broken into, their safest place may be together.
🍀 Well established secondary characters: Gigi & Jess (Book 1), Silas (Book 3), Beau (Book 4), Maisy (Book 5), Sara (Book 6).
🍀 MC growth: Family expectations, trust, forgiveness, communication, self worth, career aspirations.
🍀 Epilogue
🚩 Language used my FMC towards another FC — slut, bitch — condones & perpetuates this derogatory & dehumanising treatment of women, by all genders.

⚠️ Kidnapping, violence/gun violence (explicit), sexism, pregnancy, death of a parent (recounted on page), parental abandonment/toxic relationship, infidelity.
