Warden Boditch finds himself in trouble when he gets in a murder case that is similar to case 7 years prior. Trouble is, someone has been doing time for that murder. Were they wrongfully committed? Mike stumbles through trying to investigate while dealing with everything else the job throws at him. Fun read

3.5 I love the Maine setting and it was a good mystery. But it's hard for me to completely get into Mike Bowditch's head. He IS impetuous (I was rolling my eyes at some of the things he did) but on the other hand I don't understand why he gets into so much trouble for following his gut. He's a cop...sort of....isn't he? I do think I understood him better in the first book, though. Mixed feelings jumping around here. One other note: As much as I love, love, love the setting, it's hard to totally picture it when some of the places are real and some have the names changed. The locale in this book, Seal Cove, is an actual place on Mt. Desert Island, many miles away from the midcoast area where this is supposedly set. So the sense of "place" kept tilting itself for me.....

Didn't like it as much as the first one, found myself skimming over some of the pages. Not a bad read, but didn't grab me the way the first one did. I am going to get the next one in the series, because overall I like the characters and the writing.

Mike Bowditch is a terrible cop: impulsive, judgmental, hot-headed, irresponsible, and one who chose to drive under the influence of prescription drugs. I'm not sure why he still has a job. I've read books about other cops who make bad decisions (Harry Bosch, for one), but I like the characters and the stories enough to root for them. I found this guy unlikeable and irritating.

Trespasser is the second novel in Doiron's Mike Bowditch series, where Maine game Warden Mike Bowditch finds himself in the middle of a criminal investigation that takes over his life.  However, unlike his first novel, The Poacher's Son, in this story Bowditch doesn't have the personal tie to the crime, yet he pursues it with the same fervor and recklessness.  By now, the Bowditch formula is pretty clear, yet the story is still quite entertaining.  Mark down Trespasser as a good true-crime, suspense novel.

An excellent addition to the Mike Bowditch series of game warden crime novels. I'm looking forward to the next one which according to Amazon is due out in June 2016.

A lot better than I had anticipated. It definitely does a good job of raising your suspicions of various characters, whereas most mysteries I am able to solve sooner than I'd care to.
It also provides an interesting view on Maine and the livelihood/ lifestyles of its inhabitants that, being a Californian, I was unfamiliar to.
