Eh, maybe it's because I liked the previous volume so much, but I was underwhelmed by this one. I also wasn't drawn in by the occult/satanism mythology that the author builds this volume around (which is a personal preference).
My irritation with Isles's swooning over a male character in each volume who's clearly bad news mounted through the previous volumes, and it's definitely come to a head in this volume. I don't feel so badly for this irritation, because Isles's romances bug Rizzoli, too. I'm seriously wondering if Isles is either going to learn to be happy on her own as personal character growth, or if Tess Gerritsen is going to push the "people can only achieve maximum happiness when coupled off," as she has pushed the "only mothers know what *true* love is" in the previous volumes.
I think that the story of Rizzoli's parents' separation and fighting is interesting, and I'm curious to find out what happens with them in the next volume, even if this is only supposed to be a small side story.
