This is one of those books that is so whimsical and wonderful that I don't even understand how someone would come up with such a specific complex nonsense world. I adore it!

Silly, like ridiculously and a bit grotesque. The kids laughed tons.

My 10-year-old and I both greatly enjoyed this quirky, funny, smart, and quick-moving adventure story. Filled with odd characters, including boxtrolls, cabbageheads, rat pirates, and a boy with mechanical wings, Here Be Monsters is a big book that never gets dull. Added attraction: Hundreds of detailed black-and-white drawings that are totally absorbing and add greatly to the impact of the story. We both recommend it!

(For my kid's quickie opinion, see the review on my blog.)

I read this book to my son (which is why it took so long, he's 4) because he loves the Boxtrolls movie. I can't say much for him, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I finally gave up and read the last 100 pages by myself because I was dying to know what was going to happen next. It was a wonderful, fun, exhilarating read and I can't wait to read the next one.

A bit flabby, but not bad! The drawing were wonderful, and the protagonists are generally likable and kind. Not my favorite, but a nice read for the younger ones. I read this in anticipation for the new movie adaptation.

Very odd book, seemingly classic fantasy with the fanciful creatures and plan to save the town from an evil man, but leaves you with a sense of weirdness

This was a very silly book which I found amusing and know that children will find highly entertaining. I picked it up because the movie was so enjoyable and I try to always read the book upon which a movie is based. They are very different, so different that I never knew exactly what to expect from the book. It is exactly the sort of fantastical, crazy adventure that a child will love.
