I felt like the beginning of the book dragged a bit, but as always with sjm books the second half of the book was a whirlwind. I thought the progression of the story was interesting, and am eager to pick up the next book in the series.

So good but definitely a world building book. Lots of interwoven plots and different POV. Last 150 pages are VERY fast paced and make up for the slow beginning.

I picked this up as part of my quest to read the Throne of Glass series this year.
“Heir of Fire” takes Celaena on a new and even more daunting task: she must go to a new land and discover who she truly is. Celaena feels like her world is crumbling around her, and she has no one left on her side. What is the point to keep fighting when everything she cares about she loses?
This book took me a long time to get into and it took me an even longer time to get through. I really want to like this series more than I am, but I am struggling to be as invested as I was in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series. What keeps me moving forward, and what motivates me to pick up the next book is the endings. There is always some crazy cliffhanger or a glimmer of hope and I just want to see Celaena succeed.
I continue to enjoy Celaena as a character. She is a badass, strong woman who is determined to make the world right. When she sets her mind to something she is going to see it through and be successful. It would be so easy for her to just give up after everything she has been through.
I really enjoyed Celaena’s and Chaol’s dynamic. He was a great contrast and push to continue to develop Celaena as a strong female lead. Additionally, the other friendships highlighted in this book were heartwarming and something to aspire for.
I am intrigued to continue and pick up the next book, and I am hopeful to become more invested!

Okay this is definitely my favorite throne of glass book so far. Strong character development, the overall series plot is really picking up, and the emotions are running high. I laughed. I gasped. I fucking sobbed. Especially during the second half of the book. I had to take a few breaks to just put it down and do something else for a few minutes.

I did have some small problems with logic/continuity but that's not to say it won't be explained in the next one?? Most of it was probably just me being nitpicky though bc my husband is like that and I swear he's contagious.

You can really see SJM coming into her writing style the further you get into the series. I love how she writes people falling in love. I'm doing the romantic reading so I'll be doing the assassin's blade next and I'm really excited to just be emotionally devastated as so many people have claimed. 🥲
