A nice solid ending to the series. The novel helped explained some of the things that happened in the movie that didn’t quite make sense to me.

I have to say this is another case of the Novel saving the movie. The expanded edition of TROS was exactly what I needed. It added context to the right parts and that added context truly makes the difference for this story and makes it so much better. This doesn't feel nearly as disjointed as the film does, whether it's brief explanations from the POV of a different character or seeing just a little more of a scene that we didn't see in the film. Oh and it makes it even more obvious that Finn is force sensitive.

The character work for Ben and Rey was top notch and special consideration should be given to that of Leia and Lando.

Overall a very strong 4 stars that I am happy to award.

It’s true. No one is ever really gone. That’s how I am dealing with my grief over the ending of this saga. I fell in love with all the characters, made it my business to see the movie when it was released and bought merch. I never had a chance to enjoy the prequels when they were released ( I saw them a year after the final episode was released). This book like the movie was a send off to a host of characters that were beloved and decried by fans old and new. I waited patiently for the release of this book after seeing the movie in December. I wanted to see how it would fix the mistakes and shed more light on the story.

And it did.

This is my favorite book of the trilogy because like the movie, it gave closure to the story. So much so, that it left me feeling a lot better. I think that the kiss in the movie seemed out of place to me, but I understood why she did it after reading. Her decision wasn’t out of romantic love. It was a gesture of appreciation for him returning the favor. She saved his life and he saved hers. The only thing is that he did not survive. Finn learned that he was force resistant. I liked how the book gave him more of a purpose and a voice beyond yelling calling out Rey’s name.

The writer was good in my opinion. I truly felt like I was watching the movie while reading. I’m familiar with Author Rae Carson, but I’ve never read her work before. Now I can say that she did a great job with the story in my opinion. She clarified Kylo Ren and Rey’s connection and relationship for me. That is what I liked the most. I am rating this novel five out of five stars.

This was all right for a climax of the story. The characters were fine. Leia's death was sad and impactful. Ben's death and turning felt a little bit sudden and out of nowhere but I still enjoyed the end of his arc. The rest of the story was all right. It dragged a little but it wasn't as bad as the previous book in this series.
