A wonderfully-written book - sad, in places, hard to read sometimes because it's a very emotional memoir, and some dark topics, but don't let that put you off reading it....it's honest. It's real. I appreciate the fact that the author didn't sugar-coat things - it's part of the beauty of the book, the gritty realness of it. Yes, grittiness and dark places can be (strangely) beautiful. Parts of it reminded me of some of my own struggles, especially with the alcoholic in my life. Painful, beautiful, honest. Read it!

This is a beautiful and gripping stream of consciousness memoir dealing with mental illness and Indian roots and trauma. The author herself doesn't like the description "raw", but while the language is beautifully crafted, there's no other way to describe the emotion of this book other than "raw". It was painful to read so much of this book, but worth every bit of heartache

Such a beautiful book. The writing is amazing, and the story being told is so captivating. I was immediately pulled in from the first page, and felt emotional the whole ride through.
There are many things I could not relate with, but I understood everything, and I felt like I was there -- spectating, watching, experiencing.
I've learned about myself and my own relationships just from seeing the perspectives in this book.

DNF. I could not get into this book, and that’s typical for me with stream-of-consciousness books.

Heart Berries is a raw, poetic memoir that acknowledges stereotypes but simultaneously recognizes the individual and the individual's story.
The subjects are harsh and Terese Marie Mailhot does not cut corners or sugar coat. By writing in this manner, she ensures a compassion and trust normally intended for close friends.
