I love how Hazelwood's characters interact with each other. Her FMCs are incredibly intelligent, but always slightly bumbling and so relatable. There's humour, sarcasm and a little stupidity, and it's brilliant. I particularly enjoyed how Mara, Sadie and Hannah were all adorably oblivious at some point about what was going on with Liam, Erik and Ian behind the scenes.

Having read a few books with a hefty chunk of smut, I've realised that I'm just not fussed by it. A smutty scene won't stop me reading or enjoying a book, but usually I enjoy them in spite of it - I even found it a bit repetitive in these stories. But it's fine, because thankfully with Hazelwood there's a lot else to enjoy, and these novellas were really fun, with lovely connections running through them that delighted me.

Heck yeah.. finally I finished reading Loathe To Love You!

This is so wholesome at some points... and short stories are alwaus great! Okay, lemme break down these things.

Under One Roof :
This is incredibly funny... following Mara and Liam, I laugh a lot... they really something I looked up onto as the process when I read this book. The ending also did justice to both of them. So sweet!

Stuck With You :
Following this story about Sadie and Erik, I also found this funny in how Sadie described Erik is like a deity because he is so tall (Lol, Sadie). This story is so funny. Hahahaha...

Below Zero :
Back to NASA theme, we met Hannah and Ian. This story is non-other then scientists themselves to begin with with NASA theme. It was challenging but light too at some point. I love Hannah and Ian.

Above all, the three of them (Mara, Sadie and Hannah) apparently are bestfriends. That was I need the most. Three MCs from three stories are connected to each other. Good job, Ali! Will read Love, Theoretically next!

i’m usually not a huge novella person but i’ve been really into ali hazelwood’s writing so i wanted to give this a shot.
i thought, for what it was, the novellas were good. they were engaging, i enjoyed the characters, and even though the plots were predictable i was still entertained.
however, because they were novellas, i think the romances moved too quickly for me. i really like when a book has a ton of tension and buildup before the characters get together, and these didn’t have much of that because of the fact they were short stories.
it was cute for what it was and i did really like that each novella tied into the next one so we still got to see a glimpse of the other relationships.

Nothing compares to the joy I feel reading an Ali Hazelwood book. That’s it. That’s the review.

I lied, I’m not done. Ace-spec (and demi) representation. Smart and capable women who experience real sexism in STEM workplaces. Those same smart & capable women having deep seeded insecurities & relationship hang ups.

Sure, miscommunication is a common trope, but SPOILER ALERT FOR REAL LIFE, it happens to the best of us.

I wanted to read this book because I loved the Love Hypothesis and wanted to read these novellas, but the individual stories were only available on Kindle and I just can’t seem to get into Kindle, so when she released it as one book, I was so ready to read it. I just felt like after the first story it was a bit repetitive. I am going to review these individually and then an overview of the book.

Under One Roof – 4 Stars

This book is based on an environmental engineer named Mara and she discovers that scientists should never cohabitate when she finds herself stuck with the roommate from hell – a detestable big-oil lawyer named Liam who won’t leave the thermostat alone. Liam was already entrenched in his aunt’s house like some grumpy giant when Mara moved in, with his big muscles and kissable mouth just sitting there on the couch temping respectable scientists to the dark side, but Helena was her mentor and Mara’s not about to move out and give her inheritance without a fight. The problem with living with someone means getting to know them. And the more Mara finds out about Liam, the harder it is to loathe him, and the easier it is to love him. This book was the best of the three novellas. I think it was because this one had a little bit more depth than the other ones, we saw Mara and Liam grow as a couple and as individuals. I enjoyed the storyline with the enemies-to-lovers, yet they were both secretly crushing on each other. I think it was just missing some extra sparkle which is why I didn’t rate it five stars.

Stuck with You – 3 Stars

This book is based on a civil engineer named Sadie and she’s stuck in a New York elevator with the man that broke her heart. Sadie knows that civil engineers are supposed to build bridges. However, as a woman in STEM she also understands that variables can change, so when she finds herself stuck with Erik, she thinks she has earned the right to burn that brawny, blonde bridge to the ground. Erik can apologise all his wants, but there is nothing he can do. Not even the most sophisticated of Sadie’s superstitious rituals could have predicted such a disaster reunion. But while he’s all muscles and soft spoken, Sadie can’t help but wonder if there might be more layers to her cold-hearted nemesis. Okay, so everyone hates the miscommunication trope and it shows within this book, it felt like a chore to finish this book, if Erik had just told her the truth the day after the one-night stand, it would have all been solved. I didn’t really connect to Sadie and the only one who saved this book was Erik. If this was a full novel instead of a novella, I think it could have been better.

Below Zero - 3 Stars

This book is based on a NASA engineer named Hannah; she has a bad feeling about this. Not only has the NASA engineer found herself injured and stranded at a remote Arctic research station – but the only person who was will the rescue her is her long-time rival. Ian has been many things to Hannah: the villain who tried to veto her expedition and ruin her career, the man who stars in her most in hottest sex dreams, but he’s never played the hero. So why is he risking everything to be here? And why does his presence seem just as dangerous to her heart as the snowstorm? Again, after the first two books, this was a bit repetitive – they have sex, they hate each other, there is a miscommunication, they finally talk it through, all resolved and ends with everyone happy as Larry. This book was a bit slower than the other two due to half of the book being Hannah stuck in some ice thing. I liked the aspect of that Ian was Mara’s cousin and sort of like best friend’s brother. I think if this book was a bit longer, it could have had more of a slow burn and tension, but it was like they slept together, miscommunication and then all sorted where it could have been completely dragged out.

Overall

I think all these books could have been better if they were full lengths novels, it’s the reason I struggle with novella, because I feel like so much more is missed out because they are short stories. Mara and the gentlemen in these novellas saved this book. Mara had a personality where I felt like her friends didn’t, but the gentlemen were all like built to perfection. I think if Sadie and Hannah had a bit more of a character development it could have been better. I've have rated this based on the highest rated I gave one novella which was Under One Roof of 4 stars.

Loathe to Love You is a collection of three novellas and a bonus chapter. The novellas follow three best friends as they enter adulthood and new relationships. The novellas blend well together and include some diversity, mainly with some of the main characters being in the LGBTQIA+ community; a couple of the main characters were on the asexual spectrum, and Hannah was either bi or pan.

Under One Roof was funny and cute. Mara and Liam were too adorable; you could see their attraction from the start, but they were both too stubborn to realise it. Helena matched these too well; her matchmaking skills are phenomenal! I wished this one was a full-length novel, but I enjoyed the monthly time jumps whilst we watched their relationship grow. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ .5

Stuck with You was fun and hot. Usually, I am not a massive fan of the miscommunication trope, but I enjoyed this story with back and forth between the present and their 24hrs together three weeks prior. The instant attraction between Sadie and Erik was delicious; Erik was "chef's kiss. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Below Zero was funny, steamy and frustrating, all in one go. Hannah's and Ian's first encounter was full steam ahead, then five years later, they meet again, and everything is still good between them. However, once again, the miscommunication trope hits; if they had communicated clearly to each other heartache and near-death experiences could have been avoided! Nonetheless, this was still an enjoyable read. ⭐⭐⭐.75

Bonus Chapter was fun and cute. I loved seeing how the guys in this story bonded together and reading their POVs, even though it was several years later. ⭐⭐⭐
