It was so difficult to read Joey about to commit suicide, and then the knife was twisted even farther as you read his frantic cries for his family, and then his despair at not protecting his mother—who was never much of a mother anyway— and then his desperate fight to get back to Aoife and his little baby. I really wish we had gotten more of Joey post-rehab living with his little family🥰

My favorite line which I reread over and over and over again was
“I *want* my baby Darren”
AHHHHHH SUCK IT DARREN

Book #2 of Joey & Aoife's story was heartbreaking but full of redemption & laughs. This one was my least favorite of the BOT series but that does not mean it was bad. I adored this book! The first 3 are just really hard to contend with. Sometimes I struggle with stories being re-told by different people/perspectives, and I tend to get bored when this happens. It was necessary for this story but this is one of the reasons why it's not one of my favorites.

I don't know if I'll be able to move on from this book. I fear I'm too emotionally attached to Joey and Aoife now.

This is a huge book and at times it does feel like it. There's a lot of back and forth between Joey and Aoife. Here we're finally caught up to Shannon's story and we're seeing things in Joey's POV but it's not a huge focal point in this one which I'm grateful for because I kind of struggle with books that tell the same story just in a different POV. But like I said this one does feel like a big book at times because the pacing is slower/medium and at times it does feel like it's dragging a little bit. It's like every time Joey gets a step ahead there's like 3 steps backward and it does finally wear on him to the point he does eventually end up in rehab. It's a lot to take in but I do like how this one ended and I loved seeing more of all of the family and Johnny's family here. Plus, I loved whenever Gibsie appeared. I really can't wait to read his book!

when i say nothing, i mean absolutely NOTHING could have ever prepared me for the amount of tears i cried while reading this. this took everything and more out of me. it took my tears, my heart, my mental wellbeing. everything. but i will never stop thinking about joey and aoife’s story, and especially joey and how he let aoife and everyone around him down countless times, but to FIGHT for his life quite literally, and get his happy ending. i’m still sobbing.
