As previously mentioned, I am rereading this series for the second time. I originally read it back in 2012.
Once again, I loved this just as much as I remembered loving it the first time. If not more. I am becoming obsessed with this series all over again. Seriously, I read this after finishing Lady Midnight to deal with my post-Lady Midnight feels and that was a fantastic idea. This was an interesting reading experience for me though because I had really only remembered the Simon plot line and something about a boat. Pretty vague. So, I was basically experiencing everything for the firs time again since so much of the story was lost to me. I described it as reading in a fog essentially, which in no way took away from my enjoyment of this book in the slightest :)

I loved it, there was a perfect mix of romance and action. But, if I had to be honest, I just want Jace and Clary to get together already!

Steamroll a book in one night? Yep. Any regrets? Not one.

Will probably the last Mortal Instruments for me - the books just don't catch me, they're predictable, full of bad comparisons and the characters are flat. Ah well, luckily they aren't short so I can't speak of time wasted.

I just couldn't finish it. The plot twist after book 1 was just so bad, and Jace was just so whiny... maybe Clare made him too convincing as a mopey teenager?
I don't know. I got only a few chapters in before I just... stopped. (Petition for a re-write of the series undoing that horrible and fully unnecessary twist?)

Background: Clary’s mother is in a coma after dealing with her insane father and menacing bad guy Valentine, and all she wants is for things to go back to normal. In this, the 2nd book in the Mortal Instruments series, Downworlder children are dying and Valentine must be up to it. The Shadowhunters are blaming Jace for all the bad things his father has been doing and to make matters worse, Clary’s best friend Simon is acting stranger than normal. All they can do is wait and hope that Valentine does not start all-out war with the Clave.
Review: I loved City of Ashes, so much more than City of Bones. Here we see the character development continue with the suspense and tension from book one, but so much more. I know it is weird, but I am coming to think that Jace and Clary should be together; all of the tension wouldn't/ couldn't be for nothing right? So cleaver though.
I think my only hang up was that the word incredulous/incredulously was used a lot..but I may just be weird about things like that. I really enjoyed the teenage tensions between Clary and Simon, Clary and Jace, and Simon and Maya...fun to read.
I am always a little sad when a book ends on a cliffhanger, but I knew it was a series so the next one is waiting for me. :)

Amazingly suspenseful, wonderfully written, full of action and completely unputdownable. Starting the next one now!

Not quite as good as City of Bones, certainly more action, though. I love that the tension between Jace and Clary still exists. I could tell immediately that Simon was going to be a vampire...no surprises, just like the first one. I really wish there was less foreshadowing and clues.
