This book started off ok, but then it got kind of depressing...then more depressing...then even more depressing. And just when I would think it might get better, it would go from the depressing frying pan into the even more depressing fire. I can't imagine ever reading any more books in this series as things will likely only get worse for the poor protagonist.

This book had me going for a while, but then it got tiresome and the ending sucked. lol

So many ups and downs, just searching for someone to truly love her and finding confusion and cruelty. Kept me turning the pages quickly

I've been kicking this book around for a few weeks now after seeing it pop up on various Kindle freebie/near free sites. I love lighthouses and am a fan of VC Andrews type novels so I finally pulled the trigger. In the beginning I was really glad that I finally purchased this novel. I immediately became involved in Lillian's life at the lighthouse and while I think that her infatuation was a bit over the top, I remember being her age and having my own infatuations so I got it. However after the first third of the book is over, everything comes spiraling out of control and while I still wanted to know what happened next it didn't feel like the same novel to me.

I think my biggest issue is that I felt that it was trying TOO hard to be a VC Andrews book. So many of the stale formulaic story lines that Andrews has hashed to death were there. I don't want to spoil the story so I won't list them but you'll know them when you see them. It's sad because there was a lot of promise here but even if there was one or two of these lines dropped I think it'd have made for a stronger story overall.

It's like a Flowers in The Attic 2.0.
Or actually 0.1. Ha.

Not sure what I expected. I was too far into it to stop when I realized that the only way I could finish the series was to buy them and I don't want to spend the money. I was hoping that enough would be clarified so I would be somewhat satisfied, but alas that was not to happen. I got kind of perturbed when the same plot line happened again and again. It kind of reminded me of Flowers in the Attic (which I didn't like). I don't even know now if would even want to finish the series if the other books were available.

It was too much like Flowers in the Attic, and very disturbing.
