Didn't manage to get very far through this book, but from what I did read, it didn't hold my interest or intrigue me in any way. A shame!

This goes straight to my favourite books ever, and my only regret is that I haven't read it sooner. The way Waltari uses the Finnish language is lovely and occasionally hilarious, and his character building is fantastic. I especially loved how balanced the book is regarding the characters' genders since it has both strong women and men. Waltari manages to capture ancient Egypt's atmosphere and culture very nicely, especially considering his cultural background. Very philosophical and even sneakily teaches you quite a lot of ancient history on the way. Very glad I finally decided to pick up this classic.

I, SINUHE, the son of Senmut and of his wife Kipa, write this. I do not write it to the glory of the gods in the land of Kem, for I am weary of gods, nor to the glory of the Pharaohs, for I am weary of their deeds. I write neither from fear nor from any hope of the future but for myself alone. During my life I have seen, known, and lost too much to be the prey of vain dread; and, as for the hope of immortality, I am as weary of that as I am of gods and kings. For my own sake only I write this; and herein I differ from all other writers, past and to come.

I've long wanted to read this one.
I guess I'll have to try again, because I've bought a Czech audio version and only _then_ noticed it's abridged. So I'll refrain from a star rating here.
Also, why did the Czechs need to change the name‽ Everyone else I've seen (at least 4 languages) have kept it as "Sinuhe". What gives‽ I'm confused.
But yeah, great book. Captures the essence of loneliness in the middle of a busy life very well.
