Fast paced plot and interesting premise, the idea of this first book in a new YA series is solid. I didn’t feel like it was fully developed, especially in regard to the virtual world we start in. I think we could have stayed in Alexandria far longer and had many more clues as to the outside world before coming into the Tomb. The characters are a little flat and the tone a bit histrionic, but that’s a typical style for this kind of YA. I think young readers would still be entertained and tempted to continue the series.

This had an interesting premise but where was the rest of it?? Felt like half a book. And there's not even a sequel that I can find. D: DON'T DO THAT TO READERS!!!

I also felt like the plot got sidelined by the romance too much in the second half. With a word count under 300 pages and so many plot threads left untied, I found myself resenting romance when I usually enjoy it.

I couldn’t get into the story. It seemed choppy and the ending was predictable.

It was too short. =(
But I enjoyed every word of it.

I’m not going to finish this one but I got the gist. It’s a bit of a slow start (and also fairly similar to Haddix’s Running Out of Time) but I think middle schoolers will think it’s an interesting concept.

I certainly didn’t hate it, but the ending is exasperating.

Not too hot. Messy and needs more thought + building into the world. I think the concept had potential but it needed to be fleshed out more.
