Boastful, dramatic, suspicious

We follow two MCs and their email exchanges. One is an outgoing, popular top salesperson at a health supplement company, and the other is a socially awkward, pretentious, hyper-focused accountant at the same company.
🇺🇸 Set in Boston, MA, USA. With guest appearances from Rhode Island.

🐺🐕 Growls, Howls, and Tail Wags:
🤷‍♀️ The story is divided in two parts. The first part is the background where we are introduced to the characters and their history. One is missing, and we are figuring out what happened. In the second part, we get all the tea. The first part was more my style, with gradual unraveling, fly-on-the wall feels for all the drama and mystery. The second part was shorter, and involved more of the "thriller" aspects (escape, pursuit, survival).

👌🤭 Both MCs were unlikeable to me. But in the best way. I love second-hand embarssement/cringe and this story had plenty to offer.

🍿 This story was easy to gobble up, not heavy-handed with themes or commentary, and kept me hooked. Maybe a 'popcorn' style tale. For what happened in the story, I think that was the perfect style. But it did involve two plot devices sort of, so I could see some loving the later portion of the book and others preferring the earlier portion. Overall, prepare to suspend some disbelief and not overthink it.

Mood Reading Match Up:
  • Whodunnit true crime type missing and murdered mystery
  • Long-con I'm-gonna-destroy-your-life quest
  • Office drama involving bullying, scandal, affairs, and white collar crime
  • Slowly evolving "nothing is what it seems" plots
  • Revenge of the bullied trope
