Clever artwork and a great story. Used at the end of a unit on how cities have changed in the last century, along with "The Little House" by Burton. Sparked lots of great discussion

Fantastic illustrations, and a sweet engaging story with a wonderful message about turning off the devices in this tech'ed out life to simply "be" with each other.

A refreshing, optimistic examination of a New York City blackout far removed from what really happened that one time in 1977.

And don't forget this movie:

Love how it is set up like a graphic novel for kids. Unique illustrations, too.

This story is about taking a challenge, a blackout, and turning it into something positive. It has lots of great pictures.

Love the party on the roof with the stars! This book is too cool. Shared as an excellent example of a Caldecott Honor book!

The illustrations from various points of view are fabulous! I would have given this a 5 had the story not been so predictable. It was interesting to see that Rocco has done everything from fishing to designing attractions at Epcot to illustrating the cover of the Percy Jackson books. (Guess that makes him a Disney "lifer") Of course, you could have students describe what they've done if they have experienced a power outage, and especially what they would do in the future!

Caldecott Honor award winning picture book about a quiet blackout in a city. Basically it ignores the bad of a blackout and focuses only on the good. The art is good enough and the writing is fine. But it just doesn't go far enough.

This was fun to read to my students with a flashlight and the lights out.
