While working in the library at Madison Elementary, I was 'reading' the biography shelves, making sure books were in order. There was only ONE biography in the "Qs". So I had to read it.

The Daring Miss Quimby was amazing, and I just now learned about her. The first American woman to earn a pilot's license...in 1910. The first woman to fly across the English Channel. She had the bad luck of timing to have done this as the TITANIC was lost...so she never got the notice she hoped.

And she was probably one of the first American woman pilots to be killed, flying her plane. The book actually tells us MOST pilots died within a few years of beginning their careers.

She designed her own flight suit...a brilliant purple. She was one-of-a-kind and no one knows about her.

I'm so glad I found this book.
