I was really interested in this book, because on the premise, under the guise of it being a supernatural thriller.

The ending really soured the whole story for me. Maybe it’s a me problem, not being a mother myself.

Postpartum depression being an ever-present “bad guy” in the black-haired woman, that follows Olivia into Flora going into kindergarten, is what turned me to not like the story as a whole. Having read and wanting this story to be a supernatural horror, having the slap of reality that can be many parents was off-turning. As I mentioned, this is very possibly just a me problem; something I have to come to terms with: my perception of postpartum depression, as someone who hasn’t been pregnant and can still be in the future
