I admit that this book was a bit slow at the start - I couldn't always follow all the financial stuff, and some of the Swedish words were a bit confusing. However, I'm very glad I gave the book a chance, because it really sped up and before I knew it, I was sucked in! I found the characters of Mikael and Lisbeth to be intriguing, and I really enjoyed the whirlwind storyline. It was interesting to learn about Swedish culture and climate, as well as some of the underworld issues that arise. All in all, a fascinating book, and I'm so glad I finally read it (after seeing SO many people holding this book, or talking about it!). As soon as I finished this book, I had to rush out and get the second in the sequel (which I loved just as much, BTW ... and same story with the third!!). Excellent trilogy!

I thought this was just an OK book. It had a good pace to it, and for a mystery it was good, but I did not get the hype. The Salander character is against type, but then again, any strong female character seems to go against type these days, as they are/were rare.

super slow and hundreds of characters that are referred to in different ways that make the story confusing. I guess the mystery was good but it took over 300 pages to get there. also what good is it to fictionalize and sensationalize the constant degradation of women in this book :/ disliked tremendously

Dočítala jsem to ve dvě ráno. To asi říká vše.

Hodnotit budu až sérii jako celek, proto zatím bez hvězdiček.

Well written, terrifying moments with small senses of hope and humor.

Love love love! I loved that there were many mysteries throughout the novel, so once one was solved, I was still invested. There are many characters in true whodunit fashion, but the author does a good job of developing them and giving good background and stories to each. This is the type of book I’ve been needing and haven’t been getting from my reads this year.

i would like to start this by saying i am not normally a fan of mystery books. i like a good mysterious book but mystery as a genre never really interested me and that held true here as well. it was by no means a bad book, hence the 3 stars, just not for me. i did end up spoiling it for myself by accidentally  seeing something on a wayyy later page, i saw one of his emails to her, which really took the little enjoyment i had by that point (probably around page 140 at that moment) out of it completely.

there are 2 slightly on page non-consent scenes and one almost non-consent scene, which i did not know about, i knew nothing about this book going into it; please be careful with that. also this book has a very liberal use of the r slur derogatorily (one character slightly uses it to 'jusify' an action), so please keep that in mind.

i didn't very much enjoy the pages and time in the book after the central mystery is done, it was very boring to me just reading about office politics and such.

this is all just my personal opinion so please take it with a grain of salt. if you want to read this, please do! the translation feels very smooth and had i not been told there was a translator, i would've thought this was written in english originally.
