I'd liked the previous one better. But I think that's because I liked Astrid and Levi better.
In this one, Elsa keeps dragging everything on by denying what we all know. And Aiden us just... a bit too much of a psychošŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø
I get the whole dark romance bullshit, but this one was getting close to being too dark for my liking.
I will, however, read the next one because I'm curious about the big mystery and I'd like to see if these characters can indeed get to the romance part of this dark romance.

WHAT WAS THAT ENDING?! Rina canā€™t end like that. Just when I thought everything was going good and I started trusting Aiden, Rina drops the biggest bomb ever. And it doesnā€™t help that I read the blurb of the next book and itā€™s confirming more of my suspicions of this all being a game.

I think I have a love-hate relationship with this book, at times I was soo engrossed and couldnā€™t put the book down and at times it was really boring. Iā€™m also not a Aiden Supporter at the moment if you canā€™t tell. Heā€™sā€¦ questionable. Both Levi and Aiden have that possessive streak in them which to an extent is good. But when it gets too much Iā€™m like no thank you.

Also, Iā€™m not over that scene where Elsa recorded Xander and Aiden caught her. Idk why I thought these men will have any boundaries or morals, I shouldā€™ve just prepared myself tbh. They say throw your morals out before you read Cora Reilly books, I say do that when reading Rina Kent. Cause the emotions (Hate, Anger, Frustration) that I felt reading 2 of Rinas books, The 7 books from Cora that I read come nowhere close compared to that.

I was wondering throughout the whole book about why on earth would they need 2 more books, what more could they add to their story? It sort of makes sense for the second book now because thereā€™s still so many unanswered questions but why a third book? The ending left me so confused, so anxious that Iā€™m picking up the next book right now, who cares if itā€™s 11pm.

Coming to the characters, Elsa was nice, again not my favourite but she was better than Astrid in my opinion she had more of a back bone if you get what I mean. She still attempted to defy and face Aiden head-on whereas Astrid gave up and didnā€™t put up a fight after one incident (car park). I really want to know whatā€™s up with Xander and Kimberly, obviously we wonā€™t be told about her backstory in this book but I really want to know about what she did in the pastšŸ˜šŸ˜ idk how Iā€™m gonna wait 2 more books ughh.

Overall, Iā€™m so confused about what to rate this book, I donā€™t think Iā€™ve fully processed my feelings for it yet. Iā€™ll just give it a rating rn but it could change after I process it a bit more.

3.5

3.5 out of 5 ā˜†ā€™s.

ā€Those who don't play think that the king is the most important piece because the game is over when he dies. They don't know that the king is useless without his queen.ā€

Aidenā€™s character piqued my interest while reading ā€Cruel Kingā€ ā€” so I was ecstatic when I found out that the next book in the series was his!

While I did enjoy ā€Deviant Kingā€ overall (Note: I was aware of it being a dark bully romance novel ā€” so none of its content took me by surprise) I will say that I wasnā€™t a big fan of the ending twistā€¦

I did see it coming (so it wasnā€™t something out of left field) but it was too similar to Levi + Astridā€™s situation with their parents (in my opinion) which bothered me.

(Are all of the characters going to be connected to their love interests in similar ways ā€” or are the Kings just cursed?)

This book is not morally grey, it is morally black. The non- consensual sexual content, the constant sexual and physical harassment and the toxic possessiveness made me uncomfortable and confused. None of the characters are likeable. It is also not overly well written. But it gets more than a 1 star rating because there is actually a decent, mysterious and interesting plot at play here which I want to know more about. And yes that means that I will be reading the next book in the series because I want to know more about Aiden and Elsaā€™s past.
