Well, I actually finished it. "Paradise Lost is one of the books which the reader admires and lays down, and forgets to take up again. None ever wished it longer than it is." ~Samuel Johnson

This is the 2nd time I've read this book, and I enjoyed it more this time around. The articulation and sophistication of Milton's poetry and imagination are stunning. He story is centered around the fall of Lucifer and also the subsequent Man's fall from Grace. Lucifer wanted to rule Heaven himself, by overthrowing God. He and his army were defeated, and he was cast into Hell. He found the gates of Hell and tempted his daughter (who was entrusted by God to watch the Gate) to unlock the gate and let him out. Lucifer found Earth, he found the Garden of Eden, and he tempted Eve to eat the Forbidden Fruit as a "payback" spite of being cast into Hell.
To anyone wanting to read this book, I would recommend reading the book's of Genesis, Exodus, and Revelation from the Christian Bible to get a background on the struggle between Heaven and Hell, and also to understand how turning from God in any way, brings eternal loss of his love. Giving yourself over to him with highest praises brings eternal love and happiness.

if I'm honest with myself, I will not sit down to finish this book (loved it, but I also have ADHD)
