The kind of honesty that is uncomfortable and unflinching but that makes for tremendous storytelling.

insightful but repetitive.
classism and race discussion were the highlights for me.Ā
big TWs for infidelity & domestic abuse (physical, emotional, verbal) from the abuser's POV.
while reading about the fucked up relationships the narrator has, i recognized bpd patterns/ tendencies.
overall, i thought i would enjoy it more than i have. too often it felt like a chore to read through.

This was a story I was inspired to read after listening to Cariad Lloyd and Sara Pascoeā€™s podcast ā€˜Weirdos Book Clubā€™ episode featuring one of my favourite comedians Nish Kumar āœØ
I really did not regret it AT ALL.

All I can say is that the main character is thoroughly unhinged šŸ˜‚ Throughout the story I kept laughing because I didnā€™t know what else to do! She and the man she wants to be with need some serious help, but they are the type of people who will never seek that. I loved getting to meet everyone and get a glimpse into their lives (and their madness) šŸ™ƒ
I felt awful for the boyfriend to be fair.

I do wish it had a better ending.
You canā€™t be completely and utterly obsessed with someone and not have it ruin your life or have some major event šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø I wanted a bit more from it for sure at the end!

Loved the way it leant into classism, Instagram life, race politics and so on. 4 out of 5 stars for me, thank you āœØ

Unfortunately, the title may have jinxed this oneā€¦ This tried far too hard to be a profound social commentary on modern feminism and the era of internet-stalking and misplaced jealousy. The simple, no punctuation writing didnā€™t flow or particularly capture your attention, nor did the main character really have any redeeming qualities. It read mostly as a whiny 21st century woman intent on stealing someone elseā€™s life only because her own isnā€™t as social media worthy. Which is okay!!! Weā€™ve all done it!!! But it doesnā€™t need to be turned into a book!! Honestly mad at how unlikeable this was :/Ā

It tried.Ā
There are some aspects that I really like, but there are more aspects that disappoint my expectation.Ā

I like the overly specific description of luxury things. Or the jab at wealthy white public figures' hypocrisy, or the exploration between themes like power, intimacy, obsession, algorithm, privilege, etc.Ā

But.Ā

The social commentary itself doesn't feel natural to me, because instead of trying to incorporate those social themes in the story, the author instead write it like a punch line in an article of essay with an overtly quirky choice of words that doesn't make sense.Ā

Also, I know that an unreliable narrator often use inconsistency to entice the reader what's real or not. But there's a big gap in between the plot that feels too jarring.Ā

I agree with other reviewers that it's a bit repetitive. The ending is unsatisfactory too to say the least.Ā

So take it with a grain of salt whatever people say about this book.Ā
