A really delightful read. Strong characters, good plot, interesting system of magic. One of themes I've noticed running through [a:Brandon Sanderson|38550|Brandon Sanderson|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1201547425p2/38550.jpg]'s works (not including The Wheel of Time which is another author's creation) is an interest in religion. Oftentimes, when reading reviews of his books, it seems as though people focus on his unique magical systems (which are noteworthy). In this book, I thought Sanderson's story involved a really good examination of religious principles through the invented religions in this book (not preachy, not out-of-place, and not boring). I thought his message of religious tolerance was clear and noteworthy.

“My life to yours. My breath become yours.”

Its very hard for me to write reviews for Brandon's books and you would think why? because I literally give all his five stars and that it should be more easy but honestly its so hard to capture what I am feeling when I read his books, its the feeling that is so special and I savour it whenever I pick up his books and slowly slowly im running out of books of his to read because at the speed at which im going I wont have any left until he releases his new book lol. Although this was a reread, I love that I felt the same way as I did two years ago when I first read it. It;s a relitively slow paced book with a lot of court intrigue and plot building and that is basically what part 1 is but then part 2 would come and it would hit so hard because the way everything unraveled was so phenomenal, it had me numb becuase the plot twists and the events after that were so hard to read because I had build this attachment with these characters and AHH I dont wanna spoil but I cant believe Brandon made me almost sob.

“Mocking a woman is like drinking too much wine. It may be fun for a short time, but the hangover is hell.”

This book follows a lot of point of views and the way the point of views are told are exactly like how they were told in kingdom of ash because the cast of characters is vast there were constant switches within a chapter and I quite liked this because it made the story more interesting. So we followed Siri, a princess of Idris who is sent of to marry the god king Suseborn who was our second main character. These two characters were pitched so differently and in their true nature were so differenrt and I loved it because I honestly was not expecitng that and I cant talk about them without spoiling. Lightsong was the other main character and he wa such a complex characters, the way he was writtne was supposed to be funny, witty, charming with a dash of frustrating and he delivered on all those thing I loved him so much, He was definitely the best part about the book, His relationship with Llairmar had me sobbing honestly because it was just so deep and heart wrenching. He's definitely in my top 10 brandon sanderson characters. There was Vasher and Vivenna they didnt really excite me until the very end but I liked how they contributed to the plot.

“I swear, my dear. Sometimes our conversations remind me of a broken sword."
She raised an eyebrow.
"Sharp as hell," Lightsong said, "but lacking a point.”

I cannot stress enough on how much I love Brandon when it comes to his magic system and world building. He is simply the king of World building and crafting intricate, flawed magic systems. I love how all of his magic systems have flaws and how theres this consequence that arise within and I will gladly put warbreaker on the third spot when it comes to its magic system because the whole breath system was simply amazing. It was so visual and beautifully written, I was in awe and the way he built Nalthis and its places and the distinction that he laid down were so mindblowing. I love this world so, so much!! I just read about its and drown myself in it.

“Unknowing ignorance is preferable to informed stupidity.”

The plot and the Sanderlanche (aka the plot twist) had me screaming into my pillow, it was honestly just so damn phenomenal like I was overwhelmed with these emotions and honestly it was a whiplash and I was torn between feeling sad and feeling relieved. It was just ethereal. I think the plot itself if I describe it would seem very shallow and basic but the way its written and how its attached with the plot twists + the cast of characters elevate it so much. I loved how it was just going with the flow and how can I forget the infamous Hoid making an appearance and making the experience more enjoyable. It was sooo good.

“A person knows when they’re in darkness, even when they can’t see.”

The romance, usually Brandons books do not have a lot of romance but this one had more than any of his book and I enjoyed reading his way of writing it, I would say I laughed a lot at some scene and the others were very cute and very domestic, I loved the relationship between Suseborn and Siri, it was not one that I was expecting to love but I loved it at the end.

Overall, my favorite standalone that Brandon has ever written.
