Der zweite Teil der Duologie um das Ice Limit ist genauso packend und faszinierend wie der erste Teil. Die Mischung aus verschiedenen Genres funktioniert perfekt und während des ganzen Buches über blieb ich voll dabei. Ein richtiger Thriller mit der richtig dosierten Packung "Thrill".

Da diese Bücher auch Teil der Reihe um Gideon sind, werde ich mich wohl demnächst mal dieser Serie zuwenden. Mal sehen, ob auch diese Bücher zu überzeuge wissen. Wenn Preston & Child dort genauso arbeiten wie bei diesen Büchern, darf ich mich auf gute Unterhaltung freuen.

Well, if you are considering this title then you must be familiar with Preston and Child's first three Gideon Crew novels. Of the four, I enjoyed this one, if not the best then second best. It was certainly more solid than the third in the series. So, plot has been done to bits but here it is. This is a sequel to The Ice Limit, a novel written years ago and introducing characters that have popped up here and there in the world that Preston/Child have created. The first novel left quite a bit open to speculation and this novel was intended to wrap up the questions that lingered. Was it good? Yes. Enjoyable. Enough thrill to keep me reading. And I do love how characters pop up here and there in other books. Was it predictable? You betcha. Not much new. These two authors' Pendergast books are some of my favorite books. There is never much disappointing in them. But their other series leave a little bit to be desired. Formulaic and, quite honestly, getting so similar it is hard to keep them separate in my mind. My advice to them, as a serious Pendergast fan, forget Crew and your other series and give us more Pendergast :) overall, if you are invested in the whole series or the whole Preston/Child cannon this is not to be missed. It is a sci/fi, stuck out on a boat in the middle of nowhere survival story. If you are not familiar with Preston and Child and that appeals to you, then you will find it enjoyable. There is enough background given through "found" security footage that you will have no problem following what is going on.

Weird, unexpected and curious -- similar to the other books by these authors -- but kind of a disappointment. I loved "The Ice Limit," and just re-read it in anticipation of this newer addition. The first book is superior in every way. The sketching out of the idea, the character development, even the rhythm of dialog, it's all there in book one and lacking in book two.

I can't imagine Preston and Child's skills have ebbed away over the years-- more likely they just didn't invest the time in "Beyond" that they did with the original.

I'm reading this series backwards. According to the epilogue explanation, this is supposed to be the sequel of a non Gideon Crew book (the Ice Limit) but you don't have to read that one to get this.

Summary: From the other book, an alien seed is lying at the bottom of the sea. Gideon is hired by his employer to explore, then nuke whatever creature is at the bottom.

I liked this book because the writing was easy to follow and the story easy to get into. The action was fast with good flow - there was no long boring parts. The ending was a bit quick but I was ok with it. I'm now getting ready to read another Gideon Crew book.

If you're a fan of Preston and Child you won't be disappointed by this book. It has all of their best elements: alien life forms, adventure, and thrilling science fiction.

I remember not being over the moon about the other Gideon Crew books (more of a Pendergast fan), but this one put them back in my good graces.

Excellent book, a real page-turner. I am a fan of the authors but have never read a Gideon Crew book. This was an excellent combination of characters from a previous work, The Ice Limit, and the new character, Crew. The "meteorite" took center stage and was very cleverly envisioned. I was able to suspend disbelief for the entire book, I was on that ship, it was amazing. This goes right up on the shelf next to other keepers of Preston/Child, such as Reliquary, Brimstone, and Cabinet of Curiosities. Am looking forward to more Gideon Crew adventures. The ending was particularly well done, amazing.

Man, I was really hoping Gideon would finally die.  I can't stand his character, but I'm a completionist, so I'm determined to get through these.  I enjoyed The Ice Limit when i read it a while back, so i was curious to see how the story played out. It was fine. Preston and Child have no qualms about killing off their characters, which keeps it interesting. But i dislike how they write Gideon's sex interests in these books. It's getting pretty old.
