Underwhelming - Two Stars

Do you ever find yourself reading a page but then your thoughts creep in but your eyes keep moving down the page? And then you realize and have to re-read the last few paragraphs? Well for this book I found that I couldn't bring myself to re-read what I glossed over.

Love for Imperfect Things feels like a shameless money grab. The short one to two-sentence paragraphs feel like an assistant was given the task of gathering quotes from Haemin Sunim's speeches or interviews and compiling them into a book. And if Sunim didn't have enough to say per chapter they'd throw in a quote from someone recognizable like Albert Einstein or the Dalai Lama. The essays at the beginning of each chapter are what I gathered the most substance from, but they make up probably 40ish pages of the entire book.

All that to say, I still found some gems between the fluff. I am currently struggling with mental health and there were some words of comfort and wisdom. But all that warm and fuzzy feeling would drift away as I read through fragmented paragraph after fragmented paragraph. I feel like you could turn on a good self-help podcast and your time would be better spent.

A calming book.
Love the many beautiful quotes and illustrations.
Focus on many aspects of life specifically:
- to be in peace with your inner self
- make peace with yourself and anyone you come into contact with
- turn the negative thoughts to help you

Eventually, this book makes me reflect myself- on uncertain decisions, suppressed anger and to be friends with it, to love the imperfection of my own, many more.

"If you take home a cat and care for it,
even one that's been abandoned and is dirty,
it won't be long before it becomes
the cutest cat in the world."

"Don't be disheartened, my friend.
When we look at our lives as a whole,
our current difficulty is like a cloud.
Although large, it will soon pass."

"Don’t think you are lovable only
when you succeed at what the world demands.
You are already worthy of love."

Love For Imperfect Things by Haemin Sunim is a beautifully written book that truly touched my heart. Sunim's writing style is simple and direct, yet incredibly compelling. He writes with a deep sense of compassion and understanding, and his words are a source of comfort and guidance for anyone who struggles with self-doubt or insecurity. The book is full of wisdom and practical advice on how to love ourselves and others, even in the midst of imperfection. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to cultivate a greater sense of peace, joy, and love in their lives.

"If I come across a book I want to read, I just buy it.
I don't have to read it right away;
as long as it's there on my shelf,
I will get to it at some point.
Even if it's a doorstop of a novel,
or a complex work of philosophy,
the time will come when I will be able to enjoy it."

so true, haemin sunim. this book is so much better than the first one, i think.
