It's been a really long time since I found such a terrible character, Lydia is so annoying, so selfish, so unbearable that even with all the loss and suffering I couldn't feel bad for her, I only felt annoyance.
If it wasn't for Luca, there wouldn't be any empathy from me towards the story.

Not non fiction but you know parts (if not all) of this are rooted in truth and how heart wrenching and scary and ridiculous that is. Would I have survived?!

Even with the controversy surrounding this book, I found it to be an eye-opening fictional read that shows the need for more humanitarianism in our country, specifically towards migrants.

I had to read this with all the hype. The storyline definitely pulls you in, and yet, there were so many times where I was thinking, that doesn't sound right. And, it turns out, it was not right. Check out the many legit criticisms before buying.

My friend gave me this book as a birthday present, because we were walking past it once and I didn’t buy it, even tho I really liked it, so she got it for me.

Mainly two characters are in the foreground here: Lydia and her son Luca, who went through a lot in their lives and had to watch it. Lydia owned a small bookstore, which I admired most about her, especially her book taste and her way of dealing with words. In general, the spelling is reflected in her novel. The emotions, especially fears, are described very discreetly and are therefore more understandable. You are taken away in the plot and can follow the story. The lessons, the experiences, people, words.. All that applies to the two in this story, all this can be witnessed.

I enjoined reading it a lot, even if it did break my heart in the beginning..
