I really wish Goodreads would allow half-stars. Because I enjoyed this book more than the first in the series, but it's not quite a five star read for me, just because I reserve five star ratings for my most favorite reads. So really this would be 4.5 stars if I could.
Again, Chin has shown that something she really knows how to do is create a conflict between a couple where the reader can understand where both people are coming from, and where neither character is being ridiculous. In this case, it's just life getting in the way, and neither person being willing to sacrifice everything they both want and need to do with their lives in order to be together, along with a dash of their initial break-up happening when they were simply very young.
Although I think this book is just a bit better than the first in the series, I do recommend starting with the first. Both because it's also quite good, and also because starting with this one would give you a few spoilers regarding how things were resolved in the first one.
I really hope Chin is able to find a larger audience, her books are worthy of it.

A cozy, small town romance with a heroine who faces some big issues: returning home, bullying from a high school nemesis, and racism. A little heat, a lot of family drama.

Having absolutely loved May from The Inn on Sweet Briar Lane, I was so excited for Return to Cherry Blossom Way. Han and May instantly got me. I loved the ways May is struggling to reconcile her dreams with the feeling of being at home. Being stuck back in her old ways and these old relationships, and the pain. And how Han feels like he's so close to striking out on his dreams and seeing his path diverge. Han and May felt like such fully fleshed characters on their own. Because at the end of the day, what happens when we have achieved our dreams but it's not what we thought? Or we have given up on a vision of our future, only for us to have lingering questions? If you love those ideas, then you have to read Return to Cherry Blossom Way.

I absolutely love and enjoy this series. And this book is no exception. May doesn't come back home very often, but her boss sends her back for her latest travel writing assignment. She runs into the one that got away, Han, and tries to hide her feelings, and fails miserably. Han is determined to get his ideas for the restaurant he wants off the ground, and is determined to ignore the naysayers, including his mother. When the two of them are reunited, it sends them on a course of rediscovery.
This was such an enjoyable second chance romance, from the two main characters, and their chemistry, to the antics and conversations from the supporting family members. This was an enjoyable, cute and charming read. One of my all time small town favorite families and story.
I received a copy of the book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review of my own thoughts and opinions.
