Nice style, somehow I thought it was written in a report style, which goes with the fact that the protagonist is a journalist.

Basically a hallmark movie in book form. A man in the second half of his career is forced to take a train from Washington to la right before Christmas. He decides to write a story about it. On the train is his old flame. She is a part of a film crew who wants to do a movie about trains. There is a couple in board who plan to get married on board and an old priest as well as an eccentric woman. The wedding happens and some small thefts occur. The main character's girlfriend shows up and proposes. They break up. The train ends up snowbound and the the main character and his flame use their skis to go for help. The story includes a quaint Christmas Eve scene. The two lovers get engaged and save the day. At the very end is a terrible twist. The movie director ochestrated everything. He stated the wedding, and the reunion of old love and even the girlfriend coming out and proposing. That put it over the edge.

Faith, hope, miracles (man-made or not), love all needed ingredients for a good Christmas story. I enjoyed the book; even finding out that many of the things were stage just added to the amusement of the story.

Mona, a patron, let me down. She said the ending was a twist.

Yes, an uninteresting... twist?

My Rating: 2
Granny's Rating: 3*

*kept turning the page, wondering where the twist was.

WHAT.
Like WHAT.

This whole God dang book was just a
Spoiler stupid long con to get a man to admit he still loved someone?

I can think of at least 3 other plans that would have been 1) more financially sound 2) taken less effort on everyone's part and 3) more interesting.

If books that end with "it was then they realized it was all a dream" don't make you want to yeet the thing clear until next week, then congratulations this is the book for you.
