Adam read this book in his humanities class and so I decided to read it, too. I'd give it 3.5. Like any collection of short stories, there are a few gems, some good ones, and a few that I didn't enjoy. The teacher left one story out when she assigned the book and that one had slightly more mature themes so I thought her choice made sense.

The stories not only give the reader background on a variety of immigrant populations, they focus on how relationships are altered when a family moves to the United States.

This would be a good choice for a parent-middle schooler book club. Lots to discuss.
