Gotta love the manmade horrors of war

Also what an awesome lure design (both it being a lure and cracking open to be a maw of teeth)

While I don't think the characters were particularly strongly written, I thought the plot, tension-building, and illustrations were effective in creating one of the best monster horror graphic novels I've ever read. Although, I admit I haven't read many. Regardless, I did enjoy this work of art quite a lot. And gosh, the illustrations and format can't be praised enough here-they were simply breath-taking.

Art? Great, gory, well drawn/colored.
Everything else? Ass

While it's occasionally a little rocky in its delivery, Sea of Sorrows is a tightly told historical horror story of violence and trauma, greed and obsession. With gruesome imagery and one truly terrifying mermaid, it's a raw and unsettling story with a very human darkness at the center.

Short, easy read I found in the library that scratched a nautical horror itch. Tight, simple story with solid illustration/colouring, though I did lose track of what was happening in a couple underwater scenes. Worth the time spent.

the concept was intriguing, however the delivery was pretty lackluster. the artwork was a bit too dark, it was difficult to tell what I was looking at. a lot of the characters looked similar and it was hard to keep track of who was who. nothing was developed well, not the characters or the motivations for anything. the siren monster was interesting, but everything surrounding it was confusing. overall it was a cool idea, but the execution was not it.

A dark story about greed and treachery and what lurks in dark waters.

Another great horror tale from Douek, Cormack and Birch.

If you loved mediocre adventure movies about Nazi Gold hunters, then you might find this story to be ... average. There is little to no storytelling finesse, no character development, no intriguing twists or surprises. It's like someone lifted a B-movie plot, cut out everything but the scenes with conflict, and laid it out into a book. There is not a single person to root for or care about. I would root for the siren to eat everyone, but since there's no meat to any of the charactacters, I don't think the siren should waste her time on them.

The art was very C- Hellblazer, where one character had interesting teeth, and the sirens were well-designed, but everything else was flat. Really, the best part of this book was the coloring, which allowed the occasional panel to pop.

If you do pick it up, tt's not going to be The Worst Thing You've Read This Year because it isn't interesting enough to be awful, just disappointing.

It’s a fine story that I would be okay with only reading once. The art is suitably unsettling.
