After a few books teasing us in the subplots with the substance of Forty’s acrimonious split with Nevaeh, in this book, we get to understand these two’s sort of complex relationship. The premise is that years ago, crushed by a hidden pain, Nevaeh self-sabotaged her relationship with Forty coming out of it as the villain and hated and ejected from the Steel Bones family. Since then, her untreated ADHD has led her from one scrape to another till she’s in danger and has nowhere to go except back home to seek security with the Steel Bones, but she’s not welcome back. Meanwhile, Forty, back in town after years of military service ending in a medical discharge, is still not yet over Nevaeh’s betrayal and though he’s looking to settle down, he does everything he can to ensure it’s with her direct opposite. But everything changes when Nevaeh returns in danger and unwilling to be ignored.

This was a good MC romance. I guess my only slight niggles was the fact that Nevaeh never seemed to get the actual help and support she needed even if it was discussed. Other than that, if you like grumpy-sunshine of the manic pixie dream girl variety, this is a good choice. Nevaeh’s self-awareness meant that she stayed on the not-so-annoying spectrum of MPDG, and I especially loved her relationship with Shirlene and the way the older woman was always there for her and stood up for her when needed.

This book's premise reminded me of Kristen Ashley's MC book about Millie and High.
Basically the club feel the heroine wronged one of their own in the past and they all hate her, so much so they ran her out of town.
I liked that the actions of the heroine were wrong in the past, she admits she was foolish though she didn't cheat like the Hero thought.
The treatment of her in the past and present is harsh.
There is some pushing away from the Hero in the beginning.
The heroine has issues.
There are references to abuse from the past though not much detail.
No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine but the Hero does go on a date before he meets the heroine again.
Nothing happens.
I would have liked more conversation between the MC club men and either the Hero or the heroine to show the resolving of their issues rather than fighting it out.
There are breadcrumbs dropped for future books in series.
HEA.
Epilogue.
