Audiobook was good! Fun read, not too deep or anything. I enjoyed the take on Achilles' love life. I got lost a few times and couldn't follow what I was going on but I'm not sure if that was me not paying attention or the writing.

“And perhaps it is the greater grief, after all, to be left on earth when another is gone. Don’t you think?”

Guuuuuuys I was NOT PREPARED with how much I would absolutely love this book. I went in reluctant (with literally no reason for it) and came out broken in the best way.

Many are familiar with the battle of Troy for Helen, named the most beautiful woman in the world. Many even know how great a warrior Achilles was—after all, he was the Aristos Achaion. Best of the Greeks. However, many do not know the story of Patroclus, Achilles’ companion, and the life and love they shared before the war claimed so many lives.

Told from the perspective of Patroclus himself, we follow the story of how he came to stand at Achilles’ side and loved him through the promise of the hero’s prophesied glory.

Loving this book came to me slowly, and then all at once. Madeline Miller’s prose carried this story in such an enchanting and captivating way. I loved how even though I knew how it ended and understood it was a Greek tragedy, she had me wondering what would happen next, biting my nails with anticipation.

Patroclus is such a minor character in The Iliad, so the way she brought his story to life and wove together the growth of maturing, the passion of the characters, the social norms of the time, and the legends we all know and love was so beautifully done.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly recommend!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Also, I hate you Agamemnon.

I think this is one of my favourite books - a stunning retelling of the story of Achilles.
