I think this will go down as one of my favorite fairy tales.
It is told by several different narrators telling different parts of the story.
It is a story of a young girl whose mother dies just after she is born and is unwanted by her father.
A young prince who is the fourth son and not really needed by his family. They are both cared for by a loving peasant family, and while they are pulled apart by their life circumstances are able to save their kingdom together.
A touch of comedy , a touch of magic and destiny make this great read.

Just read this book for the first time as an adult (about the 5th time total). It is really interesting how much symbolism I missed as a kid, even though I don't think the author was trying to be very subtle.

I am pleased to report that I still love this book, and loved it as a short interlude between heavy reads.

A classic favorite of mine, it's one of my favorite Cinderella retellings right up there with Ever After and Cinder.

I highly recommend, good fun for all ages.

For a middle grade book, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Especially the beginning. The ending was a bit boring, and I sort of feel as though something grander should've happened. However, it was still enjoyable. I read this book in like two days.

I like this book, its totally okay to read if you wanna read a fairy tale, without the fairies.

There were so many different POVs, but the voice barely changed. That was unfortunate. Otherwise, it was fine.

What a charming story!!! I loved this one as a kid but remembered nothing about it, so I wanted to reread, and it was so good!! Such a beautiful, sweet Cinderella retelling.

This book wasn't quite as great as I remembered it, honestly. But it gets a lot of nostalgia points. I would say it would be a great read for younger kids, but for those of us who are older, and are more picky of our fairytale fantasies, it leaves a little to be desired. It is a very good for as quick of a read as it is. One could finish it in a couple hours.

Three and a calf cows.
