Every page was disgusting. At times I really had the feeling that I was going to be sick. At some point I had enough of the descriptions of various bodily fluids, diseased body parts, feelings in certain body parts, descriptions of female body parts from a man's point of view, power and rape fantasies.
Stylistically, it should be noted that the sentence structure and narrative structure were extremely simple. I had the feeling that she knew nothing other than subject-predicate-object and had never heard of subordinate clauses, but that could also be due to the translation I read.
In terms of content, of course I think it's good when grievances are addressed and publicised internationally; literature is a great medium for that. In this novel, however, it seemed to me as if she simply wanted to shock the readers and tried to implement a new shocking description on every page and to escalate them continually. The image this leaves with readers outside of Egypt is therefore terrible. To be honest, it is no wonder that her literature was not highly regarded in Egypt.

Read for the second time for my BA thesis. Honestly don't know why I gave it 4 stars the last time I read it.
