A fun, steamy, and heartwarming romance!! Warning: The first 30% was a little chaotic with the plot, but I actually really enjoyed the book as a whole.

Pros:
•I freaking loved both Main Characters, but especially the heroine!! Frankly is stubborn to a fault, fiercely loyal, intelligent, and sassy.
•Franky’s family - especially her brothers
•Not fully predictable
•Solid steamy moments

Cons:
•I wished the side characters had a little more depth
•Kidnapping plot felt a little too wild

Also - I super loved the extended epilogue provided separately! Worth reading for a ~one year from now~ conclusion.

I loved this book, but the first 30% was a special kind of WTF. If I ever interview Lucy Score I will need to ask... why? WHY?! Because the first 30% was so random and barely mentioned again?
But I loved the heroine. LOVED. I loved her and how she tore down the hero. I loved her funny brothers. I loved the ending!

Oh. My. Goodness. I loved this book! I’ve never fallen in love with a character as quickly as I did with Frankie. Her and her family are the best. Aiden is great, too, but I loved her family.

Such a great story and good read. Aiden Kilbourn is a strong, cold man with a soft heart and need. Frankie takes no bull. Perfection.

Verhaal was oké, maar een verhaal in derde persoon is niks voor mij

I really, really enjoyed this book. This was written years before Lucy’s TWHFTL/TWNGO and other books that people love her for. In fact, it was written 4 years before those two books. That being said, I was skeptical about reading an “older” book by her because I know authors grow as they write (duh). I was pleasantly surprised to see that the writing was just as good in 2018 as it was when I first read her books in 2023.

Frankie is an actual, non cringy, as serious as it can be girlboss. She doesn’t back down from fights, she’s fiercely loyal, but also really introspective. I appreciated that she didn’t alway “shoot from the hip,” and her feistiness didn’t come across as cringy or misplaced. It was a big defining part of her character that I didn’t mind because it was done solidly. I also love a character who recognizes that while their partner can afford the moon, they don’t abuse that money and still fight for themselves and provide as much as they can.

I love Aiden Kilbourn and there’s nothing you can do about it. I also love a billionaire man who recognizes when he needs to step back and pull back, and doesn’t necessarily tout his money everywhere, assuming it can fix things. Of course, he buys a company here or two to make Frankie’s life better which isn’t terribly realistic, but there are certain acts that he could easily solve with his $$$$ that he just doesn’t.

I LOVED the “third-act breakup” which I have in quotes because it was beautifully done and wasn’t a terribly painful breakup. I knew it was coming, as most romance books tend to have third-act breakups, but it was a smooth ride. I read Lucy’s “Things We Hide From The Light,” which was published a few years after this book, and like “The Worst Best Man,” I could tell what was going to happen pretty easily because of the way Lucy created the journey of her characters, but I expect that mostly in romance books. If I can predict the ending in a fantasy book, it’s definitely not as acceptable to be me versus a romance book!!

Speaking of the third-act breakup, I am obsessed with how that ended. I don’t want to spoil anything, but it was incredibly refreshing on how it was resolved.

I LOVED the banter. I did think there was a bit of an “insta-love” at the beginning but it truly wasn’t bad. Frankie gives Aiden a nickname pretty quickly, and his opinions of her moved a little too fast for me, but they ended up pacing really well.

If I had to make a comment, what I will say is I think this book would’ve done really well being number 2 in a series. Multiple times I checked to see if Pru and Chip had their own book first that I missed because their wedding and previous relationship seemed to be such a key part in the beginning, but there wasn’t. There are so annoying reasons this could be the case, but it was definitely a bit surprising while I was reading. I felt like the book wanted me to have more context on something that I just didn’t have context on. I still enjoyed the book, nonetheless.

Additionally, the beginning was FAST. After the major event that brings our two lovely characters together, it slows down, but it definitely was being like slapped in the face initially. Still loved this book and would highly recommend!

I loved this story!!! I was really hoping there would be another book from this world that would feature some cameos from Frankie and Aiden! I loved that she wasn’t our typical heroine & that she was in her 30s and he was 40. What a perfect romance with some amazing banter and a bunch of LOL moments!
