American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Martin J. Sherwin, Kai Bird

This was the most engaging biography I’ve ever read. Thoroughly researched, it managed to hew closely to primary sources without becoming dry and academic. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to know more about Oppenheimer or this period in American history.

Had to return and was so dense. Really interesting but would have taken me months to get through

Even though it took me absolutely forever to get through this one (I read it on audiobook), I definitely think it's worth a read--my dad recommended it to me, and it holds up. I love reading about Oppenheimer as an overpowered character. Some of the parts on politics were a little boring and I quit listening to it for weeks on end, but at least I did eventually get through it.
