Holden is the star quarterback at his university and Julep is the daughter of his new coach. The coach has warned the whole team to stay away from her. After suffering an injury, Julep is a part of his recovery team and they begin to grow closer. Soon they are unable to deny their feelings for each other.

Holden is everything you imagine a good captain to be, he is driven, focused, and supportive. Holden has his mind solely focused on football. Win the championship in his senior year and be drafted to the NFL. He lives and breathes football, that is until he begins to fall for Julep. Julep shows him that there can more to life than just football, his dreams start to change and she becomes the center of them.

Julep is closed off and has struggled through so much.
Spoiler After the loss of her sister, she spiraled into a deep depression and struggled with substance use.
In the wake of the tragedy, she found her community in a pole dancing studio filled with women just like her. She has found safety and comfort in it. Slowly she has been able to work through her grief and turn her life around, this shows just how strong she is.

Individually, these two have been through more than I can even fathom.
SpoilerJulep blames herself for the death of her sister and continues to punish herself. Tragically Holden has lost his entire family and is determined to live his life for them.
Holden and Julep are able to lean on each other and find comfort.  Holden is there to support her through her darkest days. These two fight so hard for each other.

I understand where her dad is coming from. He has been through a father's worst nightmare and is determined to protect Julep. He goes a little to far though. If he had only trusted his daughter, seen how strong she is, and had an actual conversation with her, so much heartbreak could have been avoided. Deep down he was just grasping at straws to try to keep her from spiraling again.

Tropes: sports, forbidden
