I read through this book so fast. I just couldn't put it down, it was so engrossing. The alternating chapters between Pipers narrative of what has happened and Joe's investigation was fantastic and kept up the pace really well. I really like Joe as a character and his observations of people as a psychologist, he was very endearing. The tension was really high and full of twists to keep the investigation moving. The girls situation of being kidnapped and held hostage for three years is terrifying, and the ending was so hard to guess. I highly recommend this as a good fast paced thriller, I look forward to reading more by this author.

Absolutely brilliant!
Michael Robotham has quickly become one of my favourite authors. He has a unique, intelligent (even humorous at times) way of story telling that keeps you on your toes until the very end.

This story is heartbreaking. Realistically so. The ups and downs of the story line have you feeling every twist and turn as if it's your own.
Stories like this don't end when you finish the book. They stay with you. Having you wish that there was a follow up because of the close connection you gain thru reading it.

Still one is a must read.

Glad I stuck with it. I almost gave up on it about 250 pages in. Finished it last night. It was good. Didn't realize it was part of a series until now:(

Joe O'Loughlin, a psychologist, is visiting Oxford to give a lecture at a conference. While there he is approached by the police to assess a suspect in a double murder. He soon notices a possible connection to another body found in the area and this drags up an unsolved case of two teenage girls who went missing three years previously. It's in the lead up to Christmas and he doesn't really want to get involved but reluctantly he does.

Joe has Parkinsons diseases but he try to not allow it to interfere with his work. He is also separated from his wife but his work does interfere with his hopes of leading a normal life with his family. His friend Vincent Ruiz is on the case with him. Together they get more involved in the current cases and the old one.

I enjoyed this book. Joe is written in the first person and interspersed are the words of a victim. It's a nice mix.
