I was so excited for this book -- we left off in Windwitch with so much exciting stuff happening, and I was ready to get swept away. I didn't.

Despite the fact that this book takes place over a couple of days (???), the pacing felt odd. It seemed to be all action with nary a moment to breathe -- except there was weirdly a lot of introspection that somehow took up most of the scenes. It felt, in the end, a little all over the place.

The ending was better and left me feeling the need to read the next one, but it took so long to get to a satisfying conclusion that I almost stopped reading.

Also, Susan Denard has started repeating words -- presumably for emphasis, BUT IT GOT ANNOYING when it was every couple of sentences. Where was her editor??!

At first I was a little unsure about this series, but after finishing the first two books and now getting to read an ARC of Bloodwitch, I can't get enough of this series.

The characters are great, the plot is deep and I love the creatures that keep popping up. The magic is really cool and the way the author uses it and doesn't allow the heroes to get too comfortable with their powers, or their way of thinking/knowledge of what is going on, is really cool.

For most of the book I was trying figure out why the author was putting her characters through so much and what the end game was, but the ending was well worth the wait. I can't wait for more of this series. I love these characters and this world.
