An amazing true story about the creators of Curious George. They literally bicycled their way out of France when the nazis invaded. Finally ended up in New York and the rest is history. An awesome read!

Thus children's book was a wonderful story. I had no idea how close Curious George was to never being published!

I enjoyed this book. It is a wonderful and brave story of the Rey's journey to America during the Holocaust.

Book #76 Read in 2018
The Journey That Saved Curious George

This tells the true story of how the creators of Curious George had to escape from the Nazis and how they ended up living in America. It also shows the evolution of Curious George. A quick read, this would make a nice read out loud in elementary classes. I borrowed this book from the public library.

To all lovers of Curious George, this is a must read!

I never knew the story of Margret and H.A. Rey's escape from Paris, but this book tells the story and tells it well. The illustrations are beautiful and very reminiscent of Rey's own drawings in his books. Their harrowing four month escape from Paris to New York City (quite a bit done on bicycle!) is a fascinating story of perseverance. There are so many tragic losses due to WWII but I and many many others are more than happy that the Reys made it so Curious George could be created. I love how the monkey himself saved them from ridicule!

A fascinating story of how the authors of Curious George escaped from Europe during WWII, thus saving their manuscript to eventually be published. Borden's verse writing tells their timeline well, and the illustrations combined with primary source documents, enhance the effect.
