I don't think I've disliked a JQ heroine like Miranda. and I'm a sucker for unrequited love. JUST because you've loved him forever doesn't mean he loves you. Seriously! give the poor guy a break!

BUT Turner started out his adult relationship with Miranda as a kind of a jerk. But I was really over her whole just tell me whining. Her 'horror' that he couldn't say it so she was ready to leave him. Shhesh. Get a new life!

This would've been actually good if it weren't for that HEA.

I really thought the reviews were just a bit over-reacting about the gaslighting, but color me corrected. The hero is a very self-centered and manipulative sonovabitch. Not to mention, borderline anti-feminist, he was actually contemplating not marrying the heroine because of her tendencies to fight for her gender. Okay! okay, he has history of being betrayed by his late wife and all that but that kinda is an uncommon occurrence in this time. And the story didn't fleshed his backstory enough for me to sympathize with him. And he just gaslighted his way into marriage, that is so damn disgusting!

I don't mind the first half of the story and the last two pages but honestly, why anyone would love Turner is beyond me

The Secret Diaries of Miss Amanda Cheever
4 Stars

Betrayed by his deceased wife, Nigel Bevelstoke, Lord Turner, vows never to marry again and certainly has no interest in his younger sister’s best friend, Miranda Cheever, who has loved him since childhood. Fate, it would seem, has different ideas, and Turner and Miranda find themselves thrown together and forced to wed, but can Turner get past the hurt of his first marriage and learn to love again?

I’ve been working my way through Quinn’s backlist and on the whole have been unimpressed by her earlier. The Secret Diaries of Miss Amanda Cheever is one of her more recent books, and the style is reminiscent of the absolutely amazing Bridgertons series, particularly Romancing Mister Bridgerton.

Miranda’s unrequited love for Turner calls to mind Penelope’s relationship with Colin, and it is impossible not to lover her sweet nature and independent spirit. Turner doesn’t quite reach the heights of perfection that Colin does, but he is, nevertheless, an appealing hero. While he is somewhat of an emotional cripple, who needs to be slapped upside the head for some of his actions, he does manage to redeem himself by the end.

All in all, a cute and charming read and it should be fun reading Olivia’s story.

Well, another good book, written buy the ever so Julie Quinn. I loved the push and pull of romance between Turner and Miranda, but I loved how Miranda stood up to the challenge and confronted Turner. Olivia is my favorite character and I love the nickname Turner gave Miranda aka Puss. His name is nice to, Nigel.
