2.5 stars. Not really an exciting read. About halfway in did it get a little interesting with Penelope’s character but then Autumn did the thing that most h’s do when they’re afraid to fall in love.. bail. So I wasn’t into that but I get why the author wrote it that way. 5 stars for dirty talk though!

I think this would work extremely well as a standalone but I read it as part of a series so I have some thoughts about that later 🧐

First the positives. I loved how Gabriel and Autumn really tried everything to not fall for each other (especially because everyone in their lives was telling them "you better not date the other!!!!") but how they really found each other over the other's love for Bethany, they really became their own little family unit so quickly.

I think the age gap was handled gracefully and honestly, as long as it's acknowledged and talked about by the characters, you're already a step ahead in my game. With the age-gap, of course, we got all the overprotectiveness from Gabriel (and the sugar daddy vibes lol) and I love how we continue this theme of the series where the Heros will just do anything and all to to give their heroines what they need 🥺

I think the plotline with Gabriel's ex was honestly just unnecessary but I like how it ended, we don't often see that in romances.

So, overall, very sweet romance, had my fun with it! But there were loads of things that for me just seemed inconsistent with the previous books.

I don't know if I missed anything but I don't remember Gabriel being this much of a withdrawn dick at times? I always read him as much sweeter and at the beginning I honestly couldn't recognize him.

Yes, Autumn is very sweet and lovely and maybe that's just my opinion but her sister paid for her whole college education and now that she's got her degree, it seems like we've just forgotten that. Personally, I would be so embarrassed by that and if not, I'd be thanking that woman for the rest of my life for letting me live my college life while she was busy working her ass off. Just my opinion though 🤷🏻‍♀

Those points made it a bit hard for me to get into the story but as with the previous book, my main takeaway is that I had a really fun experience listening to these books!

I won't continue with the series because all the other guys seem like absolute dickheads but I'll definitely be picking up more Louise Bay books :)

Another great one

Louise does it again. A sweet sensual story. Autumn was full of sunshine and Gabriel was the stormy cloud she needed to calm. Great chemistry and definitely a happily ever after!

This book was a total disappointment. This is the first review I have actually bothered to write, the book irritated me that much.

The FMC's sister was an interfering busybody and the way the FMC had a complete meltdown about the MMC towards the end and totally doubted his feelings and pushed him towards his ex was irritating beyond belief. If I didn't have about an hour left to finish the book and wanted it to count towards my reading goal I would have DNF'd the book.

Louise Bay delivers once again. I've been loving this series and Mr. Smithfield is no exception. Gabriel is a lawyer that puts in a lot of hours while devoting every minute of his spare time to his young daughter. After his wife suddenly leaves both him and his daughter, he's doing whatever it takes to ensure that his daughter knows that she's the center of his world.

Autumn is hired to be Bethany's nanny while she's waiting to start a new job in the fall. She's a perpetual ray of sunshine. Life is like being in a musical and she immediately takes to her charge of caring for Bethany. Gabriel can't seem to resist her either as she's bringing life back into his home that he's long even considered.

What more could you want? A brooding angsty devoted father? A strong fun heroine that is just the shot in the arm for a great relationship. Challenges from the past rearing their head that ultimately lead to growth for everybody involved. A satisfying read and a welcome return visit of characters from the previous books in the series. Hi Dexter and Hollie!
