📚 Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone by Diana Gabaldon
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I bought a hard copy of this book the day it came out in 2021. It’s a 900 page tome with small print. I much prefer reading on my Kindle so I have put off reading it. I wish I hadn’t! I decided it was time to tackle this one to fulfill the Popsugar Reading Challenge prompt: The longest book on your TBR. This is book nine of the Outlander series. These are my favorite books of all time and from the first page Bees felt like coming home to old friends. Like all of the Outlander books this one is long winded and overly descriptive. It doesn’t matter. They’re still the best stories ever written. Thankfully the cliffhanger at the end of Bees isn’t as bad as some of her past books. If the past is anything to go by it will be at least five years until we get the next one. Diana Gabaldon says book ten will be the last. If the length has been putting you off of reading this one, just pick it up and get started. You’ll be glad you did.

Barely anything happens. It ends on a cliffhanger. As per usual, a lot of set up for the next book. There isn’t a lot of character development. It’s just….meditations on daily life in the late 1700s, which is interesting but for 900 pages I need a more developed plot rather than a whole bunch of barely related storylines- some of which I don’t know at all why they even exist. I have been reading pretty much only this series since August, books 2-9 and I am so very relieved that I’m done.

This book could have been a peaceful end- cover a longer period of time with less unnecessary fluff, end with peace in the colonies and peace on Fraser’s Ridge after the war. No need to drag it out until the character’s dying days. Jamie and Claire are old. We all know they’re old. They’re going to die. Why do we need a tenth book to get to that point?

It seems like she’s setting it up for another spin off series about William.

Not that much happened in this installment of the Outlander series. The first half of the book focused a lot on Claire and Jamie’s day-to-day doings at Fraser’s Ridge and was pretty boring. The second half was more interesting as it had more to do with the Revolution. William’s and Lord John’s storylines are my favorites right now, and I look forward to finding out what happens with them in the next book. It also seems like the end of the war is imminent in book 10- hopefully we won’t have to wait another 7 years for it.

3* Pretty disappointed overall, even a little pissed off.

Considering this is a 50 hour audiobook, I feel like not a whole hell of a lot happened. There are a lot of loose ends that have been left unresolved. Story followed multiple POVs where we got a lot of detail in the lead up to things and then little resolution before it hopped to the next person. All in all, I loved and have reread the first 8 many times - I would NEVER read this one again.

It was like one of those films that solely exists to build up the next film.

Narrator was brilliant, as always.
