Wow! Just WOW! Mind-blown! I am usually really good at figuring out mysterious books but I didn't see that coming AT ALL! This book kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time I couldn't seem to get back to it quick enough when I had to put it down to do "real life". I will be immediately starting book 2 Verum which let me just say I am SUPER thankful that I don't have to wait for because UGH what a cliffhanger! This will definitely be one of my favorite reads of the year. Man what a good read!

This is pretty good read if you're into mystery. I admit I did not expect every turn that this book has taken me. There were clues here and there, but not obvious ones. It was a page turner for me.

Calla was boring, flat (like everything else about this book) and didn't impress me at all. The writing was cliché and repetitive. The secret was a let down and after finding out, there were so many things that didn't make any sense. I mean come on. I don't even know what to say. How can people actually like this? Not even Dare, the supposedly sexy, mysterious stranger did it for me. Like I said, FLAT.

Courtney has torn me apart. How can I move on from a book like that?? February is too far away. I don't think I'll survive till then. Good thing I can go read The Retribution of Mara Dyer. Because both of these series mess with your head and it's totally worth the experience. Courtney has done an amazing job keeping me on the edge of my seat and then pulling that seat right out from under me. I hope you enjoy it as much as me!!!

I think my mind has entered a mental collapse.
I don't think I will be over this book. It blew my mind in such an unexpected way.
At first I was a little hesitant about some aspects *coughinstalovecough* but in the last pages everything had sense.
Now I need the second book because THAT CLIFFHANGER DID NOT HAPPEN. I REFUSE TO BELIEVE IT ENDED THAT WAY.

But now my question is... what the hell will happen to Calla now? 🤔😲😭

Wow, what a roller coaster ride! I was not expecting what happened. It's very hard to review this book without spoilers but I'll do my best.

This book has a very dark ominous feel to it. The author does a great job building a background of anxiety and insanity. This is helped immensely both by knowing that this family lives in a funeral home and with the pov of Finn and his journal entries. You really feel how mentally disturbed he is and how helpless he feels. There is an overlying feeling of death, dying, grieving and guilt. It kept me on the edge of my seat, almost like in a horror movie where you expect someone to jump out at you at any moment.

I thought there could have been some improvement in the writing of Dare, and his characterization. It's hard to tell how he really feels or anything about his emotion or motivation. I would have liked more detail about him, and even though I understand the need to keep him mysterious, it would be nice to have more from him. Maybe his own pov?

Finally about the story climax, I really didn't see that coming. I was really trying to foresee what the secrets could be but I was blown away by the actual story. Great job with that.

Other than that, this was an ARC so it had some typos and needed a grammar check but it wasn't bad enough to take away from story or experience.

Great job. I will definitely be reading the second book.

**I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. **

DNF @ 71%

Possibly the most frustrating read for me in 2014.

Between the 'insta-love" factor, all the uncorrected typos, and the migraine-inducing twisty plot....i just couldn't force myself to make it to the end.

As for not finding out what the 'twist' was? I am beyond caring at this point.

For the record I would have given it 5 stars if the ending wasn't such a cliff hanger, and book two wasn't being released so far into space!!!
Holy hell, I had a feeling the ending was going to be similar only because I read Black Lies but I'm still happy she overcame her craziness and it's not a permanent sad ending! But the book was only 200ish pages I feel it could have gone on a little longer C'mon! Seriously!!
Throughout the book I was skeptical, as in I wasn't a huge fan but strangely enough the ending made me love the entire book, like all the clues were there yet so far away... Man all the people who had to pretend she was Finn... Exhausting!! I'm glad o finished it in one sitting though because I was dying to know "the secret" but now I want to know all about Dare!!

I finished this book and sat looking into space for a solid ten minutes. Such a unique and mind bending read. To say anymore, would be a complete spoiler. Just read the book!!

So happy I don't have to wait for months for book 2!
