I was gripped and connected way more than expected! This is a classic that I've put off.

Also, as a lover of sitcoms, this seems like it laid the groundwork for so many story arcs. The passionate explosion when Darcy confesses his love and Elizabeth throws it back in his face is the most prominent one that comes to mind.

I also enjoyed how Austen really let us enjoy how they came to fall in love and each character's reaction. I think it's a deserved victory lap that's really used anymore. Things are usually left to the imagination nowadays.

Also: whose ever used "disapprobation" this much???

Nobody told me how sassy this book was going to be.

With all the hype I have heard about this book I thought I would enjoy it much more than I did. I tried to make myself care about the characters but I just didn't. I found the story very superficial and uninteresting. Sorry, just not my cup of tea.

HOOOOOOO BOY. I may have a new favorite book. Or at least, a new favorite classic. This. Book. Was. Incredible. I am an ardent fan of the 2005 movie, but reading the source material really gave me a fuller experience. I kid you not, at Darcy’s first attempt at a proposal, the words exchanged between the two had me DROPPING my JAW. The DRAMAAAAAA!!! THE TENSION!!!! Also, I was pleasantly surprised at how thorough their communication was at the end of the book when they got engaged. Darcy and Elizabeth will long hold a very special place in my heart. Now I’m off to watch the 1995 BBC version, and probably rewatch the 2005 movie.
