6 stars really. Six best of the starring, starlingless night stirring milky sky as it weighs its wending way over Llareggub hill ...

I kid you not, it gets really good at page 25 out of 90. Overall, this felt like a love letter to people of the Milk Wood, just an appreciation piece for them. I really enjoyed the audiobook that I was listening to as I was reading this. It is just pretty good, if you got half of hour and think that it is okay to let a couple of racial slurs, vague sex scenes and kinda a mention of slavery slip by in a book, go give it a listen.

Reading notes (the parts I really liked):

Sailor's Arms are always opened

Polly's song

I've listened to this on the radio (where it works much better than on paper), but only while doing other things so I never paid full attention to it. It's atmospheric and gives you a sense of the village and the people living in it.

Poem/play about a small Welsh village. Beginning at night, describing the scene, and then the villager’s surprising dreams. The action continues until the following evening. Dark thoughts behind the respectability. All sorts of bad behaviour going on. Beautiful imagery in the introduction. Got a bit bored by the end, but impressed.

This is a beautifully produced copy of Thomas' almost childishly lascivious and mellifluous radio play with notes of Thornton Wilder. I only wish that I had Dylan Thomas and Richard Burton to read it to me.
