Difficult to rate this one so leaving it in the middle.

Thing is, I LOVE Karamo on QE. He is always making me cry. And I didn't know anything about him at all, never watch those reality shows on MTV, didn't know who he was before QE. So it was super interesting to me to find out more about his life.

But... I don't know what it is exactly that made me not love this book. Sometimes it came across a bit like: hi look at how amazing I am
Eventhough I don't think he means to do that. I think it is more about overcoming obstacles/struggles/addiction and learning from them, using it for the good.

But like I said, there were moments where it came across like a show-off "look at me, I'm amazing, I did all of this and that and I am the best". So for that reason I couldn't fully love it. If that makes any sense

3.5/5 stars. Karamo Brown is the type of person who makes a decision to start or stop something and then just does it. While this is admirable, I didn’t find it super relatable. There were parts of the book I really liked, I just don’t think it is exactly the right book for me.

Listen to this as an Audiobook!!! Listening to Karamo Brown spout wisdom and love is a beautiful experience.

This was my first ever audiobook experience, and it was magical! Karamo's voice was beautiful and brought life to the words. His story was wonderful and I found myself saying "Aww honey!" and "Oh, honey" consistently throughout the book with the ups and downs. He has a lot of wisdom to share through his life experiences and it's an amazing story to hear.

The only real issue I had was that the book didn't follow his life in chronological order. The chapters were based around certain life experiences (dreams, religion, drugs, fatherhood, queereye, etc.) and they often jumped through periods of his life. One moment he'd be talking about being a kid, then it would jump to college and beyond. It was a little hard to keep track of what stage of his life he was talking about.

All in all, a fascinating man with a real passion for helping others and a knack for understanding human beings in a kind and caring manner.

Chapter 2! I plan to use it in the classroom! Karamo’s story is powerful and the tone of his story is inspiring.

Considering I only put on the audiobook for this as some "background noise" while I worked, it grabbed my attention and held it from about 1 hour in till the end. Right up there with Tan and JVN's autobiographies too!

Out of all the QE that I've read, Karamo's didn't reach as high as I had hoped it would. I'm just so used to the QE final floor edit, and its moving, I'm crying, the story comes full circle. This one didn't flow in the same way, and maybe because it was an audiobook it felt like he was reading from text/script and he didn't give the vibe of "authentic self". Still love him, his book maybe not as much.
