This gorgeously-written horror-inducing book should be required reading on a global scale. The first time I can recall diving into a book and thinking to myself “I will be a different person when I finish this.”

Really liked Eating Animals and wanted to pick this up. I feel like this was way more disjointed and would have liked it better as an added chapter on an updated version of eating animals. Got lost on the plot a little. Focused too much on the spiritual why and not on the factual why.

The author compels us to make personal changes to help stop climate change, not to despair in the face of seemingly insurmountable challenges and not to desist. This was well written and well reasoned but did not leave me with a sense of purpose or hope. That may not have been the intention but I am left feeling neutral about this.

I'm already plant-based (vegan plus eggs from a neighbor with ethically raised organic chickens) and my daily career is in watershed restoration so maybe I wasn't the intended audience, but I felt like this book was a let down. There are plenty of better books with the same message that would reach me better if I wasn't already in agreement. I'm fully on board with most of what he said, but the actual book came off as self indulgent and not very effective. At least it wasn't terribly long and I finished it in two sittings.

Thoughtful conversation on our steps to climate change. Both taking responsibility for our future and asking for changes from others. We only know how good it can be when we reflect on how bad it can be.
