Another awesome book in the Orphan X series. Evan’s past as a government assassin in the Orphan program is catching up with him. He’s been out of the game for a while, but after the death of his trainer and father figure, he realizes the President himself is trying to kill him, via the first orphan, Orphan A. Juggling that drama with his Nowhere Man alter ego, he’s also trying to help a young man with incredibly bad men after him. Action-packed and thrilling.

i hate working through a newly-discovered awesome series too quickly... but i'm gonna break my own rules and grab #5 asap! gory, funny, terrifying, and sweet.

Strange as it might seem, there is nothing better to soothe my mind than an Orphan X novel. After a long time of wrong doing X has changed paths and is now making amends as well as dealing with the people who turned him into a killer. It’s great to read about someone driven by morality, trying to help others and do the right thing. These novels are fast paced but also have fantastic characters, Orphan X being the most interesting. In this installment, X is trying to take down the corrupt president while also protecting the sister of a young mentally challenged man whose entire family was savagely killed because he had done his job. I have enjoyed every book in this series and am already eagerly awaiting the next.

To say this was the best of the series is not doing the series justice. Not only did I think topping the previous installment would be impossible, but I thought Out of the Dark was going to be a letdown in comparison to Hellbent. But not only does Hurwitz deliver the goods again, he manages to tie up all the loose threads of the series in the process. The B storyline was awesome. Trevon was an interesting and well-developed client. The A storyline was immaculate though. Not only does President Bennett get his just desserts, Evan does it in a completely unexpected manner that doesn’t come across as convenient and forced at all.

My only question is where does the next trilogy of books that Hurwitz just re-upped for go from here? Wherever it is, I’m in.
