Excuse the pun but I am a sucker for anything vampire or set in a school, so the setting of Katmere Academy is everything I can ask for.

Grief and guilt riddles our main characters Jaxon and Grace from their respective histories. Grace being normal in a school full of vampires , witches and shapeshifters is a drama waiting to happen and from unknown enemies to attempts on her life that is exactly what we get.

I loved getting to see Grace grow closer to her uncle and cousin after her parents death, as well as the friendships we see form with Jaxons friends for her too.  Not necessarily forbidden but a romance that’s a battle of feelings and fear for her and Jaxon it’s heartwarming to see romance bloom amongst warring factions.

I couldn’t have seen the end of this coming and am ultimately glad I already have the second book as I’m sure right now that I will devour this series and it will become a firm favourite.

I liked this. Definitely a mix between Twilight and Harry Potter with some mild cursing. Very angsty teenage girl and angsty teenage boy.
Some triggers may include:
❤️ Death of parents
❤️ Attempted Murder
❤️ And possibly more.

It was hard to get into at the beginning but it got much better towards the end. Very exciting and action packed.

The slow burn romance of this book was AMAZING! It you’re looking for smut, you won’t find it here though. But the relationship between the two characters was so sweet. Ends on a MAJOR cliffhanger.

I definitely enjoyed this book more towards the end. I found myself getting bored at some parts until about 75% of the way through, where it took off and didn’t stop for me. I would have rated it a 4/5 if I hadn’t been bored in some parts, since the book is very long and could be quite slow at times, and if we had had the
aspect of vampires, witches, dragons, and werewolves revealed to us sooner, since something was clearly going on.
The ending is a good cliff hanger that makes me excited to get into the next book of the series.

I feel like this book was probably started as a twilight fanfic, but is honestly better. It follows a valley girl type main character named grace who has to move and transfer schools after the untimely death of her parents. She is not at all like Bella swan in the sense of the "I’m not like other girls" trope; in fact, the only things I think she actually has in common with Bella are moving from somewhere hot to somewhere cold, and
having 2 guys fight over her and be very over protective, one who is super dark, mysterious, and intense, while the other is goofy and more normal (very Edward vs Jacob)

I do think that
Jaxon is a ridiculous name and an even more ridiculous character, although I definitely am on team Jaxon rather than Flint. Since the character is obviously not real, I don’t really care about the crazy protectiveness he has over grace and can definitely see the draw to it. I also think grace’s internal commentary on him is funny and makes sense for a high schooler navigating her first love. I’ve seen spoilers about the next book, so I’m curious to see where this goes.

I wish I would have seen a bit more of Macy. I really like her as a character and I think it is set up well to have her recurring as a best friend of grace’s. She’s a sweetheart and a great friend.

Overall, this is a book I did enjoy a lot. It’s one of those books that is not really the best of writing but the plot and drama makes it a lot of fun to read. It’s like watching a soap opera, where you know it’s not exactly high quality but it does not detract from the entertainment value in the slightest. If you are looking for something to have ups and downs of drama, romance, betrayal, and magic, while not taking itself too seriously, this is a fantastic option and I highly recommend!!!
