I don't understand why the book needed to be as long as it was, but I hardly noticed it. It was a fun book to turn my brain off to.
If I think about it too hard, I am bugged about Grace & Jaxon's relationship. They go from strangers to mates in... less than two weeks? Nothing is appealing about trying to actually fix a guy!! The final act had also taken me by complete surprise & not necessarily in a good way. Lia deserved better than being made into a cardboard cutout of evil.

I enjoyed the first book in this series, and I'll pick up the next one. It did feel repetitive at times, and I really wanted to get to the reason why Jaxon was the way he was, and the real reason that all these students are at this academy in the Alaskan wilderness. IMHO it’s a mix of Vampire Academy & Twilight with a twist of Lost Boys. If that’s your style, and I definitely like vampire books, then this young adult story might just bite you back.

Excuse the pun but I am a sucker for anything vampire or set in a school, so the setting of Katmere Academy is everything I can ask for.

Grief and guilt riddles our main characters Jaxon and Grace from their respective histories. Grace being normal in a school full of vampires , witches and shapeshifters is a drama waiting to happen and from unknown enemies to attempts on her life that is exactly what we get.

I loved getting to see Grace grow closer to her uncle and cousin after her parents death, as well as the friendships we see form with Jaxons friends for her too.  Not necessarily forbidden but a romance that’s a battle of feelings and fear for her and Jaxon it’s heartwarming to see romance bloom amongst warring factions.

I couldn’t have seen the end of this coming and am ultimately glad I already have the second book as I’m sure right now that I will devour this series and it will become a firm favourite.

I liked this. Definitely a mix between Twilight and Harry Potter with some mild cursing. Very angsty teenage girl and angsty teenage boy.
Some triggers may include:
❤️ Death of parents
❤️ Attempted Murder
❤️ And possibly more.

It was hard to get into at the beginning but it got much better towards the end. Very exciting and action packed.

I tried so hard to finish this book but the writing being so repetitive and insufferable made it too hard. DNF at 427 pages, the first half of the book is twilight except less enjoyable and set in Alaska and when the MC finally discovers her love interest is a vampire, it only gets worse. The MC inner monologue was so hard to read & overall I started hate-reading it just to say I finished it but I can’t do it anymore after the “romance” started getting more serious & harder to endure lmaooo.

It just wasn't good, very cliche and it lacked depth
